Hey. i took this picture shortly before i clocked 24. I was at my work place and used a web cam to capture the last "physical" moments of 23..As you can see, i looked much younger than i look now..ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ..
Way back in 2001, i remember seeing a snapshot of president Bill Clinton in The Times. It was taken as he exited the White House for good to create "space" for the newly elected president(GWB). One thing struck me about this photo. The man looked so ordinary all of a sudden. It seemed like a part of him had been stripped away. Yes, he was no longer the most powerful man in the world. And his demeanor had everything to show for this. He had an air of nostalgia wrapped around him and the fact that it was winter made this much more clear. Draped in a black(was it black, anyway?) overcoat, he quietly made his way out of the WH. The end of an era.
Fast forward to October 22 2008. I quietly watched my 23rd year slip away and get consigned to the annals of history. It clocked midnight while i was awake and immediately my Celie began to buzz with cheerful sounds of "Happy birth day to you......You look like a....". I loved every bit.
This morning i woke up with a feeling i was older than i have ever been. I did my usual early morning "preliminaries", jumped into the taxi and headed for work.
But first i took time off to make that famous wish to God! And i walked away knowing too well he had answered.
"23" had its very own special moments..some among the most memorable i will ever have. The past 12 months have been as eventful as they could be and that's one heaven of a story. i guess i should begin work on my auto bio. The highs have been so high and the lows haven't been missing out...for a fact i have had quite a lumpsome But in all things, i have learned to give thanks.
Special thanks to you all who made "23" the best it could be. And just like Bill Clinton, on that cold winter morning, you can bet i have a lot to be nostalgic about.
